Hello! My name is Charles and I’m the guy behind www.CodeConquest.com.
I am a website developer specializing in the technical side of site creation, so I deal with code on a daily basis.
I also make a living from this website, sharing my programming knowledge with people who need it.
I have a vision for this website, and that is to turn it into the Internet’s premier resource for people who want to learn code and/or become programmers. Up-to-date, extensive scope and depth, covering everything a beginner needs to know.
I don’t think it’s at that stage yet, but as I become a better and more knowledgeable programmer myself, I plan to transfer all my knowledge to this site so that you can benefit from it. It’s an ongoing project.
Ultimately, I hope to get it to the point where it’s so useful that programmers and educators will be thankful for it and will want to recommend it. So if you have any suggestions for the site, please send me an email.
Now, here’s my programming story, right from the start.
How I Started Coding
I decided to learn code in 2011, not too long before the craze swept the world.
I wish I could say that this came as a result of much thought and deliberation. But the truth is, it was nothing more than a casual choice I made out of boredom. Still, it turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve made.
I was hearing a lot about the Python language and how it was supposedly an easy language to learn – so I decided to learn it. I searched Google for Python tutorials, found one, and over a period of a few days I worked through it.
And then for a while, coding fell by the wayside. It wasn’t until 2012 that I picked it back up – again just for fun. Luckily for me, a ton of new online programming training had popped up while I was dormant.
The Training I Used
In my first few months, I used a website called Codecademy to learn basic code skills in JavaScript, HTML and CSS (with its Code Year program). I also completed one course at Code School.
Later, I switched to Treehouse. I had taken a few quick looks before, but it wasn’t until I started writing about it on this website that I realized how high-quality it was. It’s now my top programming training recommendation.
I initially used Treehouse to learn PHP, but I’ve since explored much of their other training and I still use it regularly. Find out why I found it to be the best online programming training on the market in my Treehouse review.
Creating This Website
I created this website in 2012, initially just to make money. I must confess that I didn’t know very much about coding back then – and I cringe when I think about how bad this site was in its early days.
However, I soon realized that I didn’t just want a website that made me money. I wanted a website that was useful for people, that I had a passion for and that I could be proud of.
And so, I developed a vision to turn my crappy blog into the Internet’s premier resource for people who want to learn code. Ironically, or perhaps not so ironically, it was only then that it started to make money!
These days, I use this website to document everything I learn about programming and pass that knowledge onto you.
Spread the Word
Please share this website with anyone you think might find the information useful – or consider making a donation. And if you have any questions about how to learn code, send me an email. I’ll reply as soon as I get it.
Thanks for your support,
Charles
