This year there’s been a huge ‘learn to code’ movement. There are literally hundreds of websites dedicated to teaching everyday people like you to code.
The most popular one by far, however, is Codecademy. In fact, many attribute the huge popularity of learning to code online to Codecademy’s weekly mailing list, Code Year, which has been running since the start of 2012, and of course its famous plug from Michael Bloomberg.
Most of you would be familiar with Codecademy, in fact you may have even discovered this site through Codecademy. If not, then firstly what rock have you been living under? Secondly, you should definitely check it out as it’s undoubtedly the most popular learn to code destination online and it offers many advantages over its counterparts.
It’s interactive
Unlike a lot of learn to code resources online, Codecademy takes the focus off reading and onto doing. Every concept introduced is accompanied by a simple coding exercise – so you can be sure you’ve got the concept right.
It shows you how to build a website
Codecademy is full of tutorials on HTML, CSS, JavaScript and jQuery – everything you need to build a simple website. All the projects are focused on practical skills – no technical computer science lessons here.
You can get help from other coders
Every course on Codecademy includes a Q&A forum, where you can get advice if you get stuck on a coding exercise. It’s also a great place to meet fellow coders.
It’s free!
Codecademy is a totally free site. There’s no monthly fee, no premium section. The whole site is available to you without having to pay a cent.
So you should definitely get your butt over to Codecademy now, and perhaps subscribe to their Code Year mailing list.
